He was born in Derby on the 2nd of January 1922, the son of Walter and Gertrude C NEVE (née Owens) of 70 Park Road, Rugby, but was brought up by his aunt
following the death of his mother in 1936. He was educated at the City School, Lincoln, and at the King's School Canterbury from September 1936 to July 1939, where he was in School House. Soon after the outbreak of war he joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. |

It was Desmond's 1st operational mission, part of the crew of 76 squadron Halifax Mk II, ser.no. R9456, call sign MP-F , piloted by P/O H.B.Moorhouse, which took off from RAF Middleton St George, Lincolnshire at 22:00
on 8th May 1942 for a raid on the Heinkel factory near Warnemunde. Cloud cover prevented the crews from seeing any results. The aircraft crashed at Rostock killing all the crew.
